Improject was formed by a group of musicians filling in for another band last minute on a gig. With no rehearsal or set songs to play, they thought, no worries let's just make some stuff up. This idea resulted in two sets of seriously funky improvised grooves, and a new "project" was born. When that turned out to be a success, they gathered in the studio but with four microphones set up and an old Akai 1/4" 4-track tape machine. What resulted were the "Ground Coffee" and "Steppin" recordings.
